Najma set for semis clash with Qatar’s Ahly

Bahrain champions Al Najma will take on Al Ahly of Qatar tonight in the semi-finals of the 38th Gulf Clubs Men’s Handball Championship, being held in Kuwait City. Najma advanced to the final four as winners of Group B in the competition’s preliminary round, which they finished with two wins from two matches.

Ahly, on the other hand, were the runners-up in Group A where they won two of their three games. The match is scheduled for a 5pm start. Najma will be relying on the play of long-time Bahrain national team captain Hussain Al Sayyad, the French international pairing of brothers Olivier Nyokas and Alix Kevynn Nyokas, goalkeeper Mohammed Abdulhussain, Hassan Shehab, Bilal Basham, Mahdi Saad, Komail Mahfoodh, Mohammed Mirza and Ali Eid, to name a few.

Meanwhile, the other final four clash will be between Al Kuwait SC of Kuwait and Mudhar of Saudi Arabia. That is set for a 7pm throw-off. Kuwait finished as the Group A winners with an undefeated record in three fixtures. Mudhar were the Group B runners-up behind Najma, and they had one win from their two games. The winners of tonight’s matches will meet in the final on Saturday.
