Bahrain suffered a massive 41-80 loss to India yesterday in their second Group A game of the FIBA U16 Asian Championship 2022, taking place in Doha. The nationals fell behind by double-digits in the first quarter and never recovered.

The Indians led by as many as 40 points en route to their win. Hasan Ghareeb was the top scorer for the Bahrainis with 15 points. Mohamed Ramadhan added nine with seven rebounds, while Mohamed Sami Salem contributed eight.

Kushal Singh had a game-high 22 to pace India, while Jaideep Rathore and Lokendra Singh had 18 each. With the result, Bahrain remained winless in the competition’s preliminary round. They return to the hardwood for one last game today, which will also be their biggest test.

They are set to face Australia in a game scheduled for 11.15am, Bahrain time. There are 13 teams in all in the tournament’s first stage. They have been divided into four groups. Group B comprises Iran, Lebanon and Indonesia; Group C features the Philippines, Japan and Kuwait; while Group D includes South Korea, New Zealand and Kazakhstan.

After a single round-robin, the top teams from each of the four groups advance directly to the quarter-finals, while the second and third-ranked squads will compete in the play-offs for another chance to make it into the last eight.
