Bahrain paddlers win West Asian gold

Bahrain’s junior boys and junior girls national tennis teams each won gold medals yesterday in the 26th Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships Qualifying Tournament (West Asia). The junior boys’ squad claimed first place in the teams’ competition after defeating their Qatari counterpart 3-0 in the division final.
The gold medallists included Salman Mohammed, Fadhel Abbas, Ali Abbas Abdulwahab and Sayed Hussain Hassan Majid. Meanwhile, the junior girls’ team also claimed first place after beating Syria 3-1 in their final.
The squad included Maryam Al A’ali, Fatima Al A’ali, Amrona Ahmed and Dana Al Khayyat. Following both finals, the teams were presented their respective trophies and medals by Bahrain Olympic Committee vice-president His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa in an awarding ceremony.
Also in attendance were General Sports Authority CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar and Bahrain Table Tennis Association president Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, among other officials.
