Bahrain claim 16 medals in West Asian table tennis

Bahrain signed off from the West Asian Table Tennis Championship in Amman, Jordan yesterday with an outstanding 16 medals, including six gold. The nationals also came away with four silver medals and six bronze medals.

The gold medals were won by Fatima Al Ali in the under-15 girls’ singles, Majid Naji and Mohammed Nader in the under-15 boys’ doubles, Maryam Al Ali in the under-19 girls’ singles, then Maryam teamed up with Amruta Amit in the under-19 girls’ doubles, Maryam and Amruta once again in the under-19 girls’ teams, and Salman Mohammed with Ali Abbas in the under-19 boys’ teams.

Meanwhile, the four silver medals were claimed by Ali Yousef and Hassan Ibrahim in the under-11 boys’ doubles, Ali and Hadi Hussain in the under-11 boys’ teams, Nader once again in the under-15 boys’ singles, and then Nader teamed up with Naji and Hussain Busafwan in the under-15 boys’ teams.

The bronze-medallists included both Ali and Ibrahim in the under-11 boys’ singles, Fatima Al Ali and Dana Al Khayyat in the under-15 girls’ doubles, Salman Mohammed in the under-19 boys’ singles, Amruta in the under-19 girls’ singles, and the senior men’s team of Rashid Sanad, Elias Al Yassi, Sayed Murtadha Hussain and Mohammed Abbas.

Bahrain Table Tennis Association chairman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa congratulated the Kingdom’s leadership on the success of the national team, and hailed the Kingdom’s players for their outstanding efforts.
