South Korea clinch first title in U-16
South Korea clinched its first title as they defeated Chinese Taipei 78-69 in the final of the Fourth 2015 FIBA Asia Under- 16 Basketball Championships which concluded yesterday at the BritAma Arena in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Koreans trailed 18-19 after the first quarter and remained a point behind at 30-31 at the half way point.
In the third quarter, South Korea stepped up and won the third quarter 28-15 to take a 58-46 lead going into the final quarter.
The third place match was won by three-time defending China 80-58 against Japan following its shock defeat the previous day when they lost out 84-90 to South Korea.
In the 5th-6th classification match, Philippines won 89-74 against Lebanon and the 7th-8th match was won by Thailand 69-49 against Kuwait.
Bahrain under coach Aaron Mitchell had a disappointing campaign losing all seven matches to finish 12th overall after losing 84-87 to Malaysia the previous day.
In previous matches, Bahrain lost 81-82 to Indonesia in the semi-final classification match and in the second round lost to South Korea (69-90), Iraq (44-64) and to China (43-85) and in the first round Thailand (58- 65) and Philippines (58-98).
