Nasser Vocational Training Center (NVTC) signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Wigan Athletic English Football Club to launch a sports football academy.

The cooperation is the first of its kind in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) between an educational institution and an English sports club.

The agreement was signed by NVTC Executive Director Abdullah bin Nasser Al Nuaimi and Wigan Football Club President Talal Mubarak Al Hammad.

The agreement aims to develop the skills of young Bahrainis and boost their aptitudes towards international professionalism with a prominent English club.

The Wigan Athletic English Football Club will be the first UK club that targets high school students in the age group 15-18 and it will work to scout emerging sports talents and qualify them to participate in local and international tournaments.

Al Nuaimi said that the memorandum is a result of NVTC’s efforts to apply its comprehensive vision and multidisciplinary educational strategy by improving the youth and sports sector. The club will organize educational trips for NVTC members to England and integrate them with the students within their age group in Wigan to train them in sports camps and play friendly matches.

The club will provide sports education classes, field exercises, and scout sports talents by selecting talents to move to England, complete their secondary education and continue their sporting career in Wigan.

The students affiliated with NVTC will receive sports diploma from the English Premier League through Wigan Athletic Club. NVTC hopes that the agreement will open the way for creative Bahraini youth to new and professional athletic opportunities, led by the support of the NVTC Board of Trustees Chairman and His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
