Bahrain were held to a goalless draw by Bangladesh last night in both teams’ opening match of the Group B qualifiers for the AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2023, being held in the Kingdom. Both teams had a few chances to break the deadlock throughout the 90 minutes but neither could find a finishing touch. The home side had a brilliant opportunity deep into second-half stoppage time but Abdulrahman Gadban headed over the crossbar despite being unmarked in the face of goal.

Bahrain will hope to earn full points when they return to the pitch for their second fixture on Wednesday against Nepal. The Nepalis lost 0-2 to Bhutan in yesterday’s other match. The result put Bhutan in first place on the group standings. Both of last night’s games were played at the Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium at Muharraq Club in Arad. Two matches are scheduled for tomorrow at the same venue. At 6pm, Bhutan take on Bangladesh, followed at 9pm by Nepal playing Qatar.
