Bahrain Weightlifting Federation (BWF) president Eshaq Ibrahim Eshaq said yesterday that the support of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Vice-President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee to the 2022 Asian Weightlifting Championships embodies HH Shaikh Khalid’s vision to promote the Kingdom of Bahrain as a major sports destination. He affirmed that this support to the event, which Bahrain hosts from October 6 to 16, is also in line with His Highness’ vision for the Kingdom to be a sports tourism destination based on the Kingdom’s 2030 economic vision.

Eshaq was speaking during the executive committee meeting at Gilgamesh Hall at Golden Tulip Hotel. It was attended by the chairman and standing committees’ members. Eshaq said that HH Shaikh Khalid’s follow-up to the organising committee underlines the Kingdom of Bahrain’s profound reputation.

“We continue to work in full swing with continuous meetings while reviewing all details through collaboration with the Asian Weightlifting Federation and the International Weightlifting Federation, to harness many possibilities to help make this continental event great success,” said Eshaq. He said that 600 male and female athletes from 32 countries are confirmed for the 10-day event, which is a great opportunity to promote the Kingdom and make it their favourite sports destination.

Meanwhile, the BWF has completed all the arrangements to host two training camps for the Saudi national team and their Kyrgyzstan counterparts, in addition to host nation Bahrain, at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association hall at Isa Sports City in Riffa. It will continue until September 30, before all the teams move to the Golden Tulip Hotel where the official competition will take place.
