Bahrain will host the season-opening grand prix of the 2023 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. Global motorsport’s governing body, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), announced today that the World Motorsport Council (WMSC) has approved the 2023 F1 calendar, which includes the Bahrain Grand Prix as the first of a record 24 rounds.

The race weekend will take place between 3 and 5 March and it will be the fifth time that Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) has had the honour of being the opening event of the season.

BIC Chief Executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa commented: “After the record crowds, electric atmosphere and incredible racing which we were delighted to host in 2022, it makes us hugely proud to be hosting yet again the opening round of the season.

“We are already well underway with our plans for next year and will be announcing details of tickets and plans for the race shortly. Whilst the bar was set high for our 2022 race, we can’t wait to offer fans an even better experience next year.

“It’s a great honour for us to be able to host the first race of the season and we thank Formula 1 for placing their trust in us for what we hope will be yet another landmark occasion for the sport.” Next year’s Bahrain Grand Prix will mark its 19th edition and a landmark 10th race at night under BIC’s state-of-the-art floodlights.

With tickets expected to sell quickly, fans can now register their interest at bahraingp.com to become the first to hear about the launch of ticket sales. In 2023, F1 will host a record total of 24 races, with the start of the season in Bahrain kicking off a Middle East double-header, with the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix taking place two weeks later.

The calendar also confirms the sport’s growing presence in the US, with Las Vegas joining the calendar on 18 November. Further announcements on the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2023, including tickets, will be made shortly. FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem said: “The presence of 24 races on the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar is further evidence of the growth and appeal of the sport on a global scale. The addition of new venues and the retention of traditional events underlines the FIA’s sound stewardship of the sport. I am delighted that we will be able to take Formula 1’s new era of exciting racing, created by the FIA’s 2022 Regulations, to a broader fan base in 2023. In framing the 2023 F1 calendar, WMSC Members have also been mindful of the timing of the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.”
