AFC confirms election candidates

Incumbent Asian Football Confederation (AFC) president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa was yesterday confirmed as the sole nominee for the post of AFC president for the term 2023-2027.

This was announced by the AFC, who released the list of candidates standing for election to the AFC Executive Committee.

The elections are set to be held at the 33rd AFC Congress set to be held in Bahrain on February 1 and 2 next year.

As the lone nominee for AFC president, Shaikh Salman is now set to take a term for a third straight time.

Other positions for election are for five AFC Vice-Presidents (one from each of the five zones East Asia, West Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and ASEAN); six FIFA Council Members, one of whom shall also be an AFC Female Executive Committee Member; five AFC Female Executive Committee Members, one of whom shall also be a FIFA Council Member; and a further nine AFC Executive Committee Members.

Shaikh Salman assumed office at the AFC in May of 2013, and was previously also the president of the Bahrain Football Association.
