Bahrain gallop to victory in Fontainebleau

The Royal Endurance Team of Bahrain yesterday galloped to top positions at the International Endurance Race of Fontainebleau, France, in the presence of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Captained by HM the King's Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Royal Endurance Team jockeys Abdul Rahman AlZayed and Mayoof Al-Romaihi bagged first place in 160 km and 127 km races, respectively.

"The results embody the care the team receives from His Majesty the King and HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister," said HH Shaikh Nasser. HH Shaikh Nasser also expressed pride in HM the King’s keenness to watch the races.

First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, also attended the race.

HH Shaikh Nasser said the Royal Endurance Team continued its dominance in European races and proved they are on the right track. HH Shaikh Nasser, who participated in the 160 km race, was leading in the first five stages but had to drop out as the horse Valencia failed to pass the re-examination at the sixth and final stage.

Jockey Abdul Rahman AlZayed, who won first place in the 160 km race, finished in 7 hours, 47 minutes and 21 seconds. He outperformed Spain’s Gil and Knight of the Emirates Abdullah Ghanem. Jockey Mayoof Al-Romaihi is the champion of the 127 km race, and Al-Qahtani is third.

The 127 km race proved strong and exciting, with the company of riders from France and Belgium. Al-Rumaihi finished the race in 6 hours, 1 minute and 11 seconds, while Nasser Hamad Al-Qahtani, who finished third, recorded a time of 6 hours, 1 minute, and 39 seconds.

France’s Caesar came in at the second spot. Sheikha Najla bint Salman Al Khalifa ranked tenth and jockey Youssef Al-Jubouri ranked 11th. Shaikh Isa bin Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa won third place in the 100 km race after Omani riders Hisham Saleh and Hussein Ali who won the first and second places, respectively.

The race witnessed exciting competition, as His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa finished four stages in 5 hours, 4 minutes and 21 seconds. The rider of the Royal team, Khalifa Mubarak Sabt, came in at 7th place in 5 hours, 19 minutes and 20 seconds.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa had to withdraw his horse, Adair Foley, after the fourth stage considering its safety, despite the horse passing the veterinary examination in the 160 km race.

Jawad Al-Faris Muhammad Abdul Hamid AlHashemi did not pass the veterinary examination after the first stage. Jockey Issa Al-Enzi suffered an injury in the 127 km race and had to exit the race after the third round.
