Bahrain set for Davis Cup clashes

Bahrain is set to host this week matches in Group IV of Asia/Oceania in the Davis Cup 2022.
The group games have been divided into two events, with the first being held in August in Sri Lanka.
Event B is taking place at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) courts in Isa Town starting today and continuing until Saturday.
Bahrain are one of nine nations competing.
The others are Butan, Cambodia, Guam, Kuwait, Lao, Democratic People’s Republic of, Mongolia, Singapore and Turkmenistan.
The teams have been divided into two pools for their matches.
Pool A consists of Turkmenistan, Cambodia, Mongolia and Bhutan, while Pool B features Kuwait, Guam, Singapore, Laos and hosts Bahrain.
The participating countries will play a single round-robin, after which the top team from each pool will meet in the final.
The winner of that match-up will gain qualification to Asia/ Oceania Group III for next year’s Davis Cup, alongside Sri Lanka, who gained their promotion from Event A.
Bahrain open their tournament campaign today against Singapore.
The nationals feature five players, including skipper Abdulkarim Abdulnabi, Youssef Ashraf, Hamad Abdula’al, Essa Alqattan and Faris Al Toobli.
Marking the start of the competition, BTF president Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa expressed his delight in Bahrain’s hosting the Davis Cup group for the second year in a row.
