Bahrain’s young national tennis team suffered a second successive defeat yesterday in their Asia/Oceania Group IV campaign of the Davis Cup 2022.

After losing 0-3 to Singapore on Monday, the Bahrainis were dealt another 0-3 loss, this time to Guam in Pool B of the competition, being held at the Bahrain Tennis Federation courts in Isa Town.

In the clash, Bahrain’s Isa Al Qattan bowed to Guam’s Derek Okuhama 1-6, 0-6 in match one.

That was followed by Youssef Ashraf losing to Camden Camacho 1-6, 1-6.

Match three then saw Faris Al Toobli and Isa Al Qattan team up to give up a good fight against Mason Caldwell and Okuhama.

The Guam pair eventually won 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3 despite the best efforts of their Bahraini rivals.

The loss dropped Bahrain to last place in Pool B. Elsewhere yesterday, Cambodia defeated Mongolia 3-0 and Turkmenistan triumphed over Bhutan 3-0, both in Pool A; while Kuwait ousted Laos 3-0 in the other Pool B contest.

The Davis Cup matches taking place in the Kingdom are part of Event B of Asia/Oceania Group IV.

Bahrain are one of nine nations competing. They have been divided into two pools.

The participating countries will play a single round-robin within their pool, after which the top team from each will meet in the final.

The winner of that matchup will gain qualification to Asia/Oceania Group III for next year’s Davis Cup, alongside Sri Lanka, who gained their promotion from Event A.
