Muharraq outclass Samaheej in basketball league

Muharraq outclassed Samaheej 89-72 last night as week six got underway in the 2022/2023 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.

After the game remained level at 19-all at the end of the first quarter, Muharraq took control with a 29-19 second period and never looked back.

They stretched their advantage to as many as 27 points, 87-60, midway through the final period on an Abdulla Rabea lay-up before cruising over the game’s closing minutes en route to the big win.

Bader Abdulla Malabes was red hot from the field, scoring a game-high 32 points, including four three-pointers, to spearhead Muharraq. Ali Jaffar added 14, also with four triples, while Mahmood Abbas Isa chipped in with 11 off the bench.

Court general Hussain Salman had just four points but dished out an impressive 12 assists in the victory, while Ali Shukrallah scored just two points but took down 12 rebounds.

American Stephen Hurt paced Samaheej in the loss with 24 points and 18 rebounds while Mohammed Hameed and Ahmed Fateel contributed 10 points apiece.

With the results, Muharraq improved to a 3-1 win-loss record while Samaheej dropped to 1-5.

League action continues tonight with an exciting clash between defending champions Manama and revamped side Al Najma.

It is scheduled for a 7.30pm tip-off. Tomorrow, Al Ettihad play Al Hala followed by Al Ahli taking on Sitra.
