Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) announced yesterday that the new national horseracing season will kick start on 28 October at the REHC track in Sakhir.
The weekly races of the new campaign will be held under the sponsorship of a number of high-ranking individuals, companies and various institutions, who have all become partners in supporting the club’s efforts to develop the sport of horseracing in the Kingdom.
The 2022/2023 calendar is scheduled to feature 27 race days, 21 of which will be held on Fridays and six on Saturdays.
The season will conclude in March of next year before the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
The headlining events of the annual campaign will include races for His Majesty the King’s Cups on 10 March, as well as those in honour of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to be held on 3 February.
The Group Three Bahrain International Trophy will also take place as a major meeting on 18 November, while the second edition of the 10-race Bahrain Turf Series will be launched on 9 December.
On the occasion of the launch of the new season, REHC is inviting members of the public to attend the weekly races and enjoy the atmosphere and competitive events on track.
REHC also wished all participants, owners, trainers and jockeys the best for the new campaign.
Prize boost
Earlier this year, a 20 per cent increase in prize money was announced for this year’s Bahrain International Trophy and the 2022/23 Bahrain Turf Series.
The total prize money for the Bahrain International Trophy has gone up to £600,000—a £100,000 increase from last year.
Meanwhile, each of the ten Bahrain Turf Series races will now be run for £60,000 per race, up from £50,000 last season.
The series will take place across five race days with the final race day being held on 17 February.
The Bahrain Turf Series will also have a bonus-point system attached depending on where horses finish.
The points will be added at the end of the series.
Like last year, there will be two Pots: Pot A will be for horses racing over five and six furlongs (1,000m and 1,200m) and Pot B for nine and 10 furlongs (1,800m and 2,000m).
The owner of the horse with the most points in each pot will get £15,000 and the trainer of the horse with most points will get £10,000.
This will mean an extra £50,000 in total prize money.
