Marcin “Bomba” Bandel was last night crowned the new BRAVE CF Super Welterweight World Champion in the main event of a hugely exciting BRAVE Combat Federation 63, held at Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town.

The Pole clinched his title after defeating Ismail Naurdiev from Austria by way of submission (armbar) after just over a minute in the very first round.

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, attended the fight night.

Bandel said after his triumph: “Ismail is a really great fighter, a really good guy. My jaw is broken, but it doesn’t matter.

I have the belt. “I won in one minute, so I’m even more proud.” Bandel brought Naurdiev down and then threw attempt after attempt until he snatched his arm.

Bandel thus claimed the 19th victory by submission of his career, and he is now the number one 175-pound fighter on the planet.

“I know how good Ismail is, so I knew I had to win it fast,” Bandel said.

“He got me really hard, but I am happy I survived.” Bandel added: “I really like Bahrain.

It’s my first time here. Maybe I have a chance to come back, train with some guys here and spend time with them.”

Meanwhile, Brad “Superman” Katona successfully defended his BRAVE CF Bantamweight World Title after defeating Gamzat Magomedov via unanimous decision in BRAVE CF 63’s co-main event.

“My game plan was for me to be free; when I’m free I’m most dangerous,” said Katona, who became only the seventh BRAVE CF title-holder to defend his throne.

“I wanted to just be me—it was the closest I came to me in the gym.”

The title bout went the full five rounds, and both fighters had their moments.

It went down to the judges’ call, and Katona triumphed 49-46 on all three scorecards.

Meanwhile, Kamal Magomedov defeated Olli Santalahti via Technical Knockout.

Magomedov was dominant in the contest and almost finished off his rival a couple of times.

Referee Dec Larkin eventually waved off the bout in the third round.

Also victorious last night was Nemat Abdrashitov, who knocked out Marcos Vinicius in the second round of their fight.

The fighter known as “The Eagle” delivered a devastating punch to register the seventh knockout of his career, and he extended his current winning streak to six fights.

Following the bout, Abdrashitov declared his desire to next face the winner of the BRAVE CF 64 title bout between Tae Kyun Kim and Roman Bogatov next Saturday.
