Al Taawon Secondary School secured their last-8 berth in the Nasser bin Hamad Football Tournament for Secondary Schools following an easy 11-2 win against Al Noor International School, while East Riffa Secondary School saw their 2-1 lead cancelled out in the last minute of the game against Ibn Khuldoon National School.

Both matches took place as part of Group 1 in the tournament which is organised by the Ministry of Education and sponsored by the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) and Bahrain Cinema Company (Cineco).

Held at A’ali Club’s football field, Al Taawoon’s game against Al Noor was one-way traffic as the winners comfortably found the net 11 times, although they conceded two goals. Sayed Ali Abduljaleel stole the limelight in the game after netting seven goals.

Meanwhile, his teammate Ahmed Eid Ali secured a brace, while the remaining goals were contributed by Mohammed Hussain Ali and Abdullah Raed Abdulhameed.

In the other game, which took place at Isa Town Club’s football field, East Riffa Secondary School were one minute away from qualifying for the second round, but Ibn Khludoon’s captain Talal Al Ansari unleashed a screamer from a distance to secure a well-earned 2-2 draw.

East Riffa School had initially taken the lead after controlling the opening minutes through Rashid Saraj who tapped home from close range in the 23rd minute.

Seven minutes later, Saif Hani equalised following a flawless team effort.

Both teams had good chances to take the lead in the second half, but East Riffa Secondary School thought they won the game after Mohammed Ahmed found the net through an incredible solo effort in the 86th minute.

As the referee was about to blow the final whistle, Talal Al Ansari scored a stunner from outside the box, much to the shock of East Riffa Secondary School.

With these results, Al Taawon Secondary School has 6 points, East Riffa Secondary School has four points and Ibn Khuldoon has one point.

Al Noor International School has nil.
