The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) hosted a dinner for the delegates and National Olympic Committee (NOC) representatives who participated in the ground-breaking Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Gender Equity Seminar.
BOC vice-president His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa attended the evening’s events along with OCA executive board member and OCA Gender Equity Committee chair Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa; Jordan Olympic Committee President, International Olympic Committee (IOC) executive committee member and OCA member HRH Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein; International Swimming Federation president Husain Al Musallam; BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji, and a number of other high-ranking sporting officials along with the guests.
The seminar concluded yesterday at the ART Hotel and Resort at Amwaj Islands, with Shaikha Hayat presenting a list of recommendations for Asian NOCs to evaluate and implement.
The two-day seminar saw an expert group of panellists, including representatives from the International Olympic Committee, UN, UNESCO, Red Cross and other private organisations tackle three main topics, including women representation and participation, best practices to enhance gender equality, and grassroots strategies.
“We are all together in one boat, but I’m confident that soon, one day we will all reach our destination,” Shaikha Hayat told delegates in her closing address.
