Olga Danilova from Cyprus and Yahan Zhang of China were yesterday crowned champions of their respective singles categories in the second Bahrain event on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour Juniors Calendar 2022.

Olga clinched the girls’ singles title after defeating fourth seed May Fadida from Israel 6-1, 6-4, while Zhang outplayed boys’ singles fourth seed Rashed Nawaf of Qatar 6-2, 6-0 to claim his winner’s trophy.

Meanwhile, the pairing of Tamara Ermakova and Mori Grylak along with the duo of David Prasievi and Seth Sadikov clinched the tournament’s doubles titles in their divisions.

Tamara and Mori, from Israel, lived up to their tag as second seeds but needed to go the maximum to defeat Katarina Curcic of Serbia and Laura Maser of Germany 6-3, 1-6, 10-5 to win the girls’ doubles crown. Prasievi, from the US, and Sadikov, from Georgia, followed suit by taking the boys’ doubles championship after defeating Nawaf and brother Mashari, also in a tough final, 6-2, 6-7 (6), 10-8.

All four champions were presented their respective prizes in an awarding ceremony attended by Bahrain Olympic Committee vice-president His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.

Also on hand were Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) president Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, BTF secretary general Fuad Al Rowaie, and other high-ranking officials.

HH Shaikh Isa praised the BTF for their efforts in successfully hosting the competition and added that it is a testament to the Kingdom of Bahrain being a top destination for international tennis tournaments.

HH Shaikh Isa stressed the importance of this age group for discovering new talents and refining their abilities, in order to graduate the players to the highest levels of competition.

Yesterday’s action wrapped up the second Bahrain ITF event held in as many weeks at the BTF courts in Isa Town.

It followed last week’s competition, with both being J5 level tournaments on the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors Calendar 2022.

The BTF will now host a J4 ITF event from Monday to 13 November. Today will be the qualifying round for both the boys’ and girls’ singles main draws.

A number of Bahrainis will be contending for their spots, including Faris Altoobli and Shadi Kallel amongst the boys, and Hajar Zaidan for the girls.
