Khatem wins cycling tour third stage

Mohammed Abdulkareem Khatem clinched first among the Bahraini participants in the third and final stage of second Nasser bin Hamad Cycling Tour for Amateurs, which came to a close yesterday.

The concluding leg covered a distance of 80 kilometres, and Khatem was followed by runner-up Jassim Mohammed Hussain. Third place went to Anwar Al Alawi.

The yellow jersey was taken by Hussain who also came away with the blue jersey, while the red jersey went to Anwar Al Alawi, and Mohammed Abdulkareem claimed the green jersey.

At the teams’ level, Bike Zone finished first, followed by Giant Team and A’ali Club. At the GCC level, Yehya Al Shumari was the winner, Ahmed Nasser was second, and Ahmed Madan came third.

At the teams’ level of GCC participants, Dubai Police team A came first, Victorious team were second, and Dubai Police B were third.

In the Bahraini women’s category, Fatima Murad won the race, while Fatima Hussain was the runner-up and Zakiya Al Sada finished third.

Amongst the GCC women and non-Bahraini residents’ section, Emma Baker was the victor, and she was followed by Olga Ghorvet and Fara Al Muri.

At the end of the race, Bahrain Cycling Association president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Ahmed Al Khalifa honoured the winners of the top places in the presence of representatives of the sponsoring companies Batelco, Gulf Air, Faalyat and Ahmed Al Haj, the manager of the competition.

The event took place under the patronage of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs.

Commenting on the threeday event, HH Shaikh Nasser affirmed that it represented a great opportunity to discover new Bahraini talents and to develop their skills en route to sending them to national cycling teams and participating in foreign events.
