Mille powers through in ITF tennis

Mille Johanna Moerk of Denmark advanced to the girls’ singles second round yesterday in the third and final Bahrain event on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour Juniors Calendar 2022.

Mille lived up to her tag as the fourth seed and defeated Diya Tamse of India 6-1, 6-0 to make it through.

She was the highest-ranked player to march forward in girls’ singles action yesterday.

Other winners were fifth seed Anna Perelman, sixth seed Anna Kislyak, Laura Maser of Germany, Daria-Maria Anghel of Romania, Olga Danilova of Cyprus, Diva Bhatia of India, Roni Baranes and Inbar Pony of Israel, and Vlada Kozak of Great Britain.

Mille and Vlada will face off in round two.

Top seed Lea Bathellier of France and second seed Andra Izabella Sirbu of Romania both have byes into this ensuing stage.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ singles first round, winners yesterday included David Prasievi and James Blair of the US, Mashari Nawaf of Qatar, Maciej Zarebski of Poland, second seed Amit Shahar and Tim Vaisman of Israel, Shay Sarfati of France, Yannick Maser of Germany, Samprit Sharma of India, and sixth seed Aril Kayra Tuna of Turkey.

Action continues today at the Bahrain Tennis Federation courts in Isa Town from 9am onwards.

The ongoing tournament is a J4-level competition on the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors Calendar 2022.

It follows the two previous events held in the Kingdom, which were both at the J5 level.
