Bahrain beach soccer team depart for Neom Games

Bahrain’s national beach soccer team departed yesterday for Neom in Saudi Arabia to participate in the Neom Beach Soccer Cup 2022, which is scheduled to take place from tomorrow to Saturday.

The Bahrainis are one of eight teams from around the world taking part in the event, which is being held as part of the Neom Beach Games 2022.

The other national sides include beach soccer powerhouses Brazil, Japan, England and Paraguay along with Gulf sides Oman, the UAE, and hosts Saudi.

Bahrain have been grouped together with Brazil, Japan and Oman for the opening stage.

The players on the roster include Rashid Jamal, Mohammed Ashoor, Abdulla Abdullatif, Mohammed Darwish, Salman Al Yaqoobi, Ali Hassanain, Mohammed Abdulla, Mahran Maatouk, Isa Juma, Hassan Ebrahim, Khalifa Ebrahim and Ahmed Abdulrasool.

Bahrain’s first game will be against the Brazilians on opening day. They then take on their Japanese counterparts the following evening, before completing the group stage against Oman on 11 November.

Following the single round-robin, the match-ups for the competition’s final day on Saturday will be determined. Four games will be played to complete the final rankings from first through eighth place overall.

The Neom Beach Games 2022 are bringing together leading world-class sport events with high-performance athletes from over 25 countries, as the region aims to become a hub for sport.

The series of major sport events launched on 19 October and it features five dynamic sports, namely kitesurfing, triathlon, 3x3 basketball, beach soccer and mountain biking— all taking place on different dates.
