Boys’ singles number one Bessonov advances in ITF tennis

Top seed Dmitry Bessonov cruised into the boys’ singles second round last night in the third and final Bahrain event on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour Juniors Calendar 2022. Bessonov booked his place following a 6-0, 6-0 win against Aljuzayri Mohammed of Saudi Arabia.

He will now face off with Yannick Maser of Germany in round two.

Maser had previously beaten Tibo Meermans of Belgium 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Also advancing yesterday to the boys’ singles second phase was third seed Rashed Nawaf of Qatar, eighth seed Maxwell Castle of Great Britain, Rares Andrei Golescu of Romania and Ahmed Ibrahim of Egypt.

On the distaff, third seed Eda Numanoglu of Turkey marched through to the girls’ singles second round with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hajar Zaidan of Bahrain.

Eda next plays Inbar Pony of Israel.

Others to go forward were eighth seed May Fadida of Israel and Stasa Bulatovic from Montenegro. Elsewhere, winners in the first round of the boys’ doubles included the pairings of top seeds Zury Cohen and Amit Shahr of Israel, second seeds Bessonov and Castle, third seeds Vineeth Mutyala of India and Aril Kayra Tuna of Turkey, fourth seeds Marko Milosavljevic of Serbia and Tim Vaisman of Israel, Maser and David Prasievi of the US, Nawaf brothers Rashed and Mashari, Raffaele Ciurnelli of Italy and Vishnu Balachandar of the US, and Nikita Safonov and Samprit Sharma of India.

In the girls’ doubles, yesterday’s winning tandems included third seeds Anna Kislyak and Anna Perelman of Israel, fourth seeds Vlada Kozak of Great Britain and Mille Johanna Moerk of Denmark, Israelis May and Ariel Avidan, Roni Baranes of Israel and Laura Maser of Germany, Juliane Koschinski of Germany and Defne Ursan of Turkey, and Olga Danilova of Cyprus and Kariman Buqai of Israel.

The action continues today at the Bahrain Tennis Federation courts in Isa Town from 9 am onwards.

The ongoing tournament is a J4-level competition on the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors Calendar 2022.

It follows the two previous events held in the Kingdom, which were both at the J5 level.
