Bahrain suffer big loss to Brazil in Neom Beach Soccer opener

Bahrain’s beach soccer national team were handed a heavy 1-8 defeat to powerhouses Brazil last night in their first game of the Neom Beach Soccer Cup 2022, being held in Neom, Saudi Arabia.

The Bahrainis’ lone goal was scored by Rashed Jamal in the first period, at the end of which they trailed 1-2.

But then the Brazilians fired in three times in the second to go ahead 5-1, and then closed out the contest with another three goals in the third period to complete their rout.

The Bahrainis return to the playing field today when they take on their Japanese counterparts, before completing the group stage against Oman tomorrow.

Also yesterday, Oman defeated Japan 6-5, Paraguay beat England 5-3 and Saudi won 4-3 over the UAE on penalties after regular time ended tied 4-4.

Following the single round-robin, the match-ups for the competition’s final day on Saturday will be determined.

Four games will be played to complete the final rankings from first through eighth place overall.
