Bahrain International Trophy-winning jockey Daniel Tudhope said yesterday that he capitalised on his promising positioning towards the end of the race en route to securing the 10-furlong event in impressive fashion.
The Scotsman was delighted with his victory, which followed an eighth-place finish for the six-year-old gelding last year at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club.
They now come away with the richest-ever prize of the lion’s share of £600,000 for owners Godolphin and trainer Saeed bin Suroor in the Kingdom’s showpiece horseracing event.
“I don’t know what they were like behind me but I was in a nice position to strike first,” Tudhope said at the end of the race.
“Travelled super through the race and when I asked him, he picked up well.
It’s great to win here in Bahrain as they look after us so well. “It’s a great race to win. I rode in it a few years and ago and it’s a wonderful place.”
Tudhope was supposed to also compete in Bahrain last year but had to pull out due to injury. His horse, Lord Glitters, went on to win the race saddled by Jason Watson.
Dubai Future, by winning yesterday’s Bahrain International Trophy, receives an automatic invitation into the Group 3 Neom Cup on Saudi Cup night and bin Suroor revealed “it was likely” that he would head to Saudi Arabia in February.
