Giustino, Khazzam triumph to lift Bapco Cups

There was plenty of other action at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) leading up to yesterday’s feature event, the £600,000 Grade 3 Bahrain International Trophy.

Two Bapco Cups were up for the taking along with two Batelco Cups and two Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) Cups.

Giustino lifted the Bapco Cup in the day’s seventh and penultimate race, held over eight furlongs with a BD5,000 total prize.

The four-year-old gelding, saddled by Paul Hanagan, triumphed for Al Adiyat Racing and AM Smith, with Maystar and Ecosystem finishing second and third, respectively.

Khazzam won the other Bapco Cup, held in race four over a six-furlong straight with a BD4,000 prize.

Abdulla Faisal rode the four-year-old filly to first place ahead for HH shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa and Haider Ebrahim. Toulouse Le Plot and Qamari followed.

The Batelco Cup in race six was claimed by Rayounpour, again for Al Adiyat Racing and AM Smith.

Jockey Harry Davies triumphed in the 12-furlong, BD3,000 race, finishing ahead of Recovery Run and Tall Order. Roman River lifted the other Batelco Cup in race five, held over five furlongs with a BD7,000 prize.

Edinson Rodriguez was in the saddle for M and E Racing and AM Smith, while Ocean Star came second and First Edition was third.

In race two, held over nine furlongs with a BD3,000 prize, Living Art triumphed for Stephane Ladjadj to lift an EDB Cup for Abdulla Sami Nass and Hesham Al Haddad; while the other EDB Cup was claimed by Al Saqlawy 1841, ridden by Hussain Aghar for Al Riffa and Yousif Alboainain over a six-furlong straight to claim the lion’s share of the BD3,000 prize.

Else where yesterday, Mugheerah won the 11-furlong, BD2,000 third race for Al Nayefaat, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Jerome Moutard.
