Al Ta ’awon Secondary School for Boys reached the final of the 1st Nasser bin Hamad Football Tournament for Secondary School after surviving a five-goal-thriller against Al Fateh Secondary School for Boys.
Interestingly, both teams met in the final of last year’s football tournament for secondary schools, and the match was won 5-4 in the penalty shootout by Al Ta’awon Secondary School.
Al Ta’awon Secondary School attacked in numbers in the opening minutes and came close to finding the lead in the 17th minute, but were denied by the post.
It was a deja vu for Al Ta’awon in the 34th as the same post stood on their way. Four minutes later, however, Sayed Ali Abduljallil put them ahead after unleashing a screamer from outside the box.
Matching the beauty of the goal was the way he controlled a smart pass by his teammate Ahmed Eid.
In the second half, Al Ta’awon continued to mounting pressure on their opponents to double their lead.
And Ali Abdulrasool added the second goal before Sayed Ali Abduljalil made it 3-0. It was an uphill struggle for Al Fateh who saw their player Ali Al Enzi shown a red card for a dangerous challenge.
Shockingly, Al Fateh started to pose a threat to the winners after going down to ten men as Mohammed Fadel gave them a lifeline by scoring in the 60th minute.
Ahmed Al Dooseri stunned all those present in the game by adding the second goal.
Al Fateh missed several chances to level the score as Al Ta’awon made their way to the final.
Ali Hussain Sanad of Al Ta’awon was named the best man of the match.
