Byline lifts HH Shaikh Khalid Cup

Byline powered to an impressive victory yesterday to lift the prestigious HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup in the day’s feature race at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority president and Bahrain Olympic Committee chief His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended yesterday’s races, along with REHC High Committee chairman His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and other high-ranking officials.
Al Adiyat Racing-owned Byline, trained by AM Smith and ridden by Paul Hanagan, claimed first place after completing the eight-furlong event in one minute 37.055 seconds, thus coming away with the lion’s share of the BD10,000 total prize.
Beauchamp Bagenal finished as runner-up for Ishaq Murad, Hesham Al Haddad and Husain Makki, while Shebil Aljazira came third representing Al Mohamediya Racing, Osama Hashim and Neil Callan.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cups were also up for grabs in five of the seven other races yesterday.
In the seventh and penultimate event, held over nine furlongs with a BD4,000 prize, Grigadale triumphed for Al Mohamediya Racing, Abbas Al Mawali and Neil Callan.
The four-year-old completed the race in 1:51.519, with Paxos finishing second for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Alberto Sanna.
Arctic Emperor came third competing for Al Mohamediya, Hesham Al Haddad and Liam Keniry.
In race six, Ocean Star was the winner over a six-furlong straight to take the biggest portion of the BD5,000 prize. The four-year-old won for the Al Afoo-Hasan-Sanna triumvirate.
Mobaadel came second for Al Mohamediya, Hesham Al Haddad and Neil Callan, while Dark Shadow was third for Al Mohamediya, Osama Hashim and Liam Keniry.
The fifth race was won by Meead for Al Mohamediya and Hesham Al Haddad.
Liam Keniry saddled the three-yearold to first in the five-furlong, BD2,000 event, with Aahad in second for Al Khaldiya, Hesham Al Haddad and Stephane Ladjadj, and December third for Mohamediya-Al Haddad-Callan team.
Level Pitch took race four for Al Mallah Syndicate and Abduljaleel Al Mallah. Saddled by Andrew Breslin, the three-yearold took the win in 2:06.616 over 10 furlongs for the lion’s share of the BD2,000 prize.
Magic Illusion came second for owner and trainer Jaffar Marzooq, whil ridden by Adnan Jaffar, and Fares Al Salam came third for Y&A Racing, Taleb Ali and Robert Tart.
In the first race of the day, a WAHO event over eight furlongs with a BD3,000 total prize, Kuheilan Aafas 1695 lifted the HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for Al Wasmiya, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Ebrahim Nader.
Kuheilan Aafas 1708 was second for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Muanis Al Siyabi, while Kuheilat Al Adiyat 1782 was third for Victorious and Yousif Taher, saddled by Husain Makki.
Else where yester day, Mishaweer won the day’s third race to lift the HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim and Abdulla Faisal; while Wewonitsixtimes triumphed in race two for M and E Racing, AM Smith and Ethan Jones to clinch the HH Shaikh Faisal bin Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup.
