Bahrain-based karting sensation Lewis Smith has his eyes set on a winning performance in the second and third rounds of the Bahrain Rotax MAX Challenge (BRMC), taking place this weekend at Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC) in Sakhir.
After coming just seven-hundredths-ofa-second shy of victory in the season-opening meeting last month, Lewis is determined to go one better as he suits up for back-to-back days of intense racing this Friday and Saturday.
Sponsored by pest management and disinfection experts VermineX, Lewis will be lining up on the grid in the highly competitive Senior MAX category against many of the Kingdom’s other top karting talents.
The BRMC rounds mark the latest challenge for Lewis in what has been an action-packed 2022, one that has seen the 17-year-old Briton clinch the Sakhir Rotax MAX Challenge title in class while also excelling in three international events at Karting Genk Track in Belgium.
Lewis is now looking to finish out the year strong. Following his BRMC bid, the British School of Bahrain student will be flying the Kingdom’s flag in the third MENA Karting Nations Cup in Oman from 13 to 17 December—yet another top-class grassroots motorsport event featuring the region’s best drivers.
“I’m looking forward to getting back to racing this weekend—it’s always a wonderful test of my abilities to go up against such a talented group of karters in Bahrain, and then the following weekend as well in the MENA Nations Cup,” said Lewis.
“In the first round of the BRMC I came close to getting the victory but did not close it out, so this time I’m eager to make up for it and get back to the top of the podium.
“I have been training diligently over the past month since. I have made it a point to do something every day to get better, even when I’m not practising on track.
I need to keep physically and mentally fit to be able to race at the highest level. “I know that all my preparations and sacrifices will pay off.
Now I need to remain focused and deliver to the best of my abilities.” This weekend, Lewis will be hitting the tarmac for Qualifying, the Pre-Final and Final in each of the BRMC’s meetings.
He will be getting behind the wheel of his Rotax-powered kart, which will be emblazoned with VermineX livery. “I once again would like to thank VermineX Director David Nubel and General Manager Anthony Manabat for their continued backing,” Lewis said.
“I truly appreciate their support and I hope to make them proud, along with my family and friends.”
Lewis is one of Bahrain’s most promising young karting talents.
He has made a name for himself on the national, regional and international stage and continues to flourish at all levels.
Lewis is continuously looking for support from Bahrain companies for sponsorship opportunities, which would offer exposure all across Europe and within the Kingdom of Bahrain.
