Bahrain Schools Chess Championship concludes

The curtain fell on the second edition of Khalid bin Hamad Chess Championship for Bahrain Schools (2022- 2023). HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President, patronized the closing ceremony, which was held at the Khalifa Sports City arena.
The Ministry of Education organized the competition in cooperation with the General Sports Authority, Bahrain Mind Sports Association and Bahrain Chess Club.
Up to 5000 students from public and private schools competed in the qualifying phase, of whom 400 succeeded in reaching the final stage and vie for top spots.
Also present were GSA Deputy Chairman HH Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Education Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, GSA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdulrahman Askar, Undersecretary for Policies, Strategies and Performance, Bahrain Mind Sports Association Chairman Dr. Tariq Al Shaibani, Bahrain Chess Club Chairman Dr. Khalid Burhan Eddine Al Awadhi and other officials.
HH Shaikh Khalid hailed students’ wide participation in the championship which was held as part of plans to develop school sports, in line with the directives of Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, SCYS Chairman His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
In a statement on this occasion, he commended cooperation between the Ministry of Education, the General Sports Authority, Bahrain Mind Sports Association and Bahrain Chess Club.
Dr. Juma addressed the ceremony expressing deepest thanks and gratitude to HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, for patronizing the championship and attending the closing ceremony, which further motivates Bahraini youngsters, especially school students, to play this mind sports.
He praised HH Shaikh Khalid’s support to youth and sports in in light of the development march led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He also hailed the role played by HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa in supporting Bahrain youth and developing sports to honour the Kingdom of Bahrain in regional, continental and international competitions.
