Muharraq storm back in five-set win over Al Nasser

Muharraq roared back from two sets down in a thrilling five-set victory over Al Nasser last night in a clash between two top teams in the 2022/2023 Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League.

Nasser appeared to be on their way to a clean sweep of their Group Two rivals after taking the first two sets.

But Muharraq were just getting warmed up and took the next two to force a fifth and decisive set.

It remained close until the end, when young Abbas Ali gave Muharraq their final two points on successful spikes to close out the match with a score line of 3-2 (23-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-21, 15-13).

It was a closely fought game throughout, but Muharraq came up with the key points in the end.

Also playing important contributions in their win were Nigerian professional Samuel Anthony Ogwuche, Hassan Al Haddad, Hussain Khalifa, Mahmood Al Afia and Mahmood Ali. Meanwhile, Nasser were led by American Jeffrey Menzel, Jassim Turki, Mohammed Omar, Hussain Mahdi, Ali Sultan and Hussain Alhayki.

With the result, Muharraq earned their fifth win in six games while handing Nasser their first loss in five contests.

Both teams remained in the top three of Group Two along with Dar Kulaib.

The rest of the squads in their division are A’Ali, Al Dair, Al Tadhamun and Busaiteen.
