Al Hala edged past Muharraq 78-74 in a thrilling week 11 encounter in the 2022/2023 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
After the two teams were deadlocked at 66-all with just over five minutes left in the final period, Hala ended the game with a 12-8 run to stun their rivals and come away with the win.
Tony Farmer sparked the end-game rally with a three-pointer that made it 69- 68 and gave Hala the lead for good.
Then, following a pair of Ali Shukrallah free-throws that brought Muharraq back to within 74-76 with only eight seconds remaining, Ahmed Khalifa buried two pressure-packed charity shots to virtually seal the game.
Farmer finished as Hala’s top scorer with 28 points, while Alwatheq Ali added 19 off the bench and Abdulqader Thani had 10.
For Muharraq, who were playing without a professional, Bader Abdulla Malabes and Shukralah were their only players in double figures, finishing with 17 and 10 points, respectively.
The result helped Hala improve to a 4-5 win-loss record while Muharraq dropped to a 5-3 mark.
League action continues tonight with Sitra and Al Ettihad clashing in the evening’s lone fixture.
Tomorrow, Al Najma face Isa Town followed by Samaheej playing Nuwaidrat.
