Al Fateh Secondary School for Boys defeated Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Institute of Technology 5-4 to finish third in the Nasser bin Hamad Football Tournament for Secondary Schools, held at A’ali Club’s football field. Organised by the Ministry of Education, the tournament is sponsored by the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) and Bahrain Cinema Company (Cineco).
Both teams rushed to attack and paid little attention to defence as they had nothing to worry about after losing their respective semifinal games. Al Fateh broke the deadlock after only six minutes into the first half through Fadel Awad.
However, Fahad Abdulhakeem equalised the score for his team after only four minutes. From there onward, it was a one-way-traffic game for Al Fateh Secondary School, whose attacking prowess enabled them to fire four goals past their hapless opponents through Rashid Al Basri, Mohammed Fadel and Jassim Sa’ad Al Rumaihi (a brace) as the first half finished with the result of 5-1 in the winners’ favour.
In the second half, Al Fateh Secondary School replaced their key players and this proved a costly mistake as their opponents came within a touching distance of levelling the score.
Fahad Abdulhakeem added two goals to his tally to make the result 5-3 midway through the second half before Isa Ali scored Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Institute of Technology’s fourth goal in the final minutes to give the match a dramatic end.
Al Fateh Secondary School managed to hold well into their lead to win the game. Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Institute of Technology’s player Isa Ali Hassan was named the best player of the game.
