Sandor, Alissa triumph in triathlon Asian Cup

Gabriel Sandor from Sweden and Alissa Koenig from Switzerland were yesterday crowned champions of their respective categories in the 2022 Bahrain ASTC Triathlon Asian Cup, held in Diyar Al Muharraq.

Sandor won the elite men’s class while Alissa came first amongst the elite women to emerge as the headlining victors from the event.

The race, sanctioned by the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC), took place at Diyar Al Muharraq.

It featured a 750-metre swim, followed by a 20km cycle and concluding with a five-km run.

Sandor completed the race in a winning time of 53 minutes and 26 seconds. He clocked a time of 09:46 in his swim, 25:56 in his ride and then 15:46 for his run.

Maximilian Sperl from Germany was the runner-up in 53:56, while his countryman Till Kramp completed the elite men’s podium with a time of 54:43 in third.

Koki Yamamoto of Japan was fourth, Oscar Gladney Rundqvist from Denmark fifth and Hokuto Obara of Japan sixth, while Magnus Manner of Germany and Tsz To Wong of Hong Kong completed the top eight.

On the distaff, Alissa triumphed in the elite women’s category with a time of 1:00:45.

She completed her swim at 11:01, her cycle at 30:26 and her run at 17:18.

Ivana Kuriackova of Slovakia finished a close second in 1:00:56, while Yuka Sato from Japan was third in 1:01:11.

Margot Garabedian and Antoanela Manac, both from Romania, were fourth and fifth while completing the top eight were Juri Ide and Chisato Nakajima from Japan and Erin McConnell from Ireland.

Age groups

Meanwhile, there were other winners amongst the various age groups for both men and women.

Abdulaziz Alduaij from Kuwait was the winner amongst the men, countryman Abdulaziz Alhowaidi was the victor for the 16- 29 group, Husain Ali also from Kuwait in the 30-39 class, Bahrain’s Shaikh Saqer Al Khalifa was first in the 40-49 division, and Peter Bourke, also from Bahrain, came first in the men’s 50-59 group.

Jessica Arnzen took first place amongst the women, while Salma Akram from Egypt was first in the 16-29 class, Fei Lin from Bahrain topped the 30-39 category and Johanana Abad from the Philippines won the 40-49 division.

At the end of the race, the winners presented their respective awards in a ceremony attended by Bahrain Triathlon Association officials.
