Eunice Chumba wins women’s race in Abu Dhabi Marathon

Bahrain’s Eunice Chumba was crowned the winner of the women’s race in the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, held on Saturday in the UAE.

Eunice clinched first place after completing the event’s 42.2-kilometre distance in two hours 20 minutes 41 seconds. She finished well ahead of the rest of the pack.

Angela Tanui from Kenya was the runner-up in 2:21:12, while Mare Dibaba from Ethiopia came third in 2:21:25. Eunice came close to matching her personal best of 2:20:02, which is also the Bahraini record for the women’s marathon.

She had achieved that mark in April of this year in Seoul.

Meanwhile, Bahraini Zelalem Bacha narrowly missed out on a podium in the men’s race, taking fourth place overall. Bacha finished with a mark of 2:12:29.

Timothy Kiplagat led a Kenyan one-two as countryman Felix Kimutai was behind him. Kiplagat won in 2:05:20, while Kimutai came second in 2:09:32.

Adeledelew Mamo from thiopia completed the podium places in 2:09:42. Bacha holds a personal best of 2:07:09.
