Najma fight back in win over Nasser

Al Najma battled back from a set down to claim a hardearned 3-2 (25-16, 29-31, 21-25, 25-21, 15-12) victory over Al Nasser last night in the opening game of the round of six in the 2022/2023 Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League.
The game was played at the Isa bin Rashid Arena at Isa Sports City in Riffa. Following an impressive start, Najma conceded the second and third sets to a battling Nasser.
The second set was particularly close, with Nasser able to secure the win following a double block by American Jeffrey Menzel and Hussain Mahdi. But Najma did well to stay alive in the fourth set and rode their momentum into the tiebreak.
A Fadhel Abbas spike gave them a 12-9 lead, and they never looked back from there as they closed out the contest to make a winning start to this stage of the league.
Others to play key roles for Najma were Ali Ebrahim, Hassan Dahi, Ahmed Sadiq and Mahmood Hassan; while for Nasser, Menzel, Mahdi, Jassim Turki, Ebrahim Mohamed, Mohammed Jassim, Ahmed Isa and Hussain Al Hayki all contributed in the losing effort.
The meeting was the first between the two clubs in this year’s league.
Najma qualified for the round of six after finishing in first place in Group One of the first stage, while Nasser finished third in Group Two.
The other teams in this phase are Dar Kulaib, Muharraq, Al Ahli and Nabi Saleh.
This stage will be played over a double round-robin, with the top four teams moving on to the Golden Square semi-finals.
