Buffer Zone lifts Nass Cup

Buffer Zone lifted the Nass Corporation BSC Cup in the eighth and feature race yesterday at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.

REHC High Committee chairman His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended yesterday’s races along with other high-ranking officials.

The Victorious-owned, Hesham Al Haddad-trained Buffer Zone clinched first place in the six-furlong, BD4,000 event in a time of one minute 10.203 seconds, saddled by jockey Stephane Ladjadj.

Mobaadel finished in second place for Al Mohamediya Racing, Al Haddad and Neil Callan; while Raahy was third representing Husain and Abbas Aqeel Hasan, Jaber Ramadhan and Liam Keniry.

Meanwhile, The Covex Kid and Kuheilan Aafas 1708 both triumphed to win the pair of Late Mr Abdulla Ahmed Nass Cups, sponsored by Nass the Group.

The Covex Kid triumphed in the day’s seventh and penultimate race, held over 11 furlongs with a BD2,500 prize.

Representing the Mohamediya-Haddad-Callan triumvirate, the threeyear-old won in 2:21.758.

Glen Savage finished in second place for M and E Racing, AM Smith and Edinson Rodriguez; while Level Pitch took third for Al Mallah Syndicate, Abduljaleel Al Mallah and Andrew Breslin.

Kuheilan Aafas 1708 triumphed in the day’s first race for Victorious and Yousif Taher, while ridden by Anas Al Siyabi.

The nine-year-old clinched first place in 1:39.055, with Kuheilat Al Adiyat 1782 as the runner-up for the Victorious-Taher pairing, with Salem Alajmi in the saddle.

Kuheilan Aafas 1695 finished third for Al Wasmiya, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Ebrahim Nader.

In yesterday’s sixth race, Taqareer won the Blue Dawn (Dodson and Horrell) Cup for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Francesco Dettori, completing the nine-furlong, BD2,000 ride in 1:51.529.

Dark Lion and Tartan Chief were second and third, respectively.

The Gulf City Cleaning Company Cups were claimed by Van Halen and Battle of Talas.

Both horses were competing for owners Al Adiyat Racing, trainer AM Smith and jockey Paul Hanagan.

Van Halen triumphed in the fifth race over nine furlongs with a BD2,000 total prize in 1:54.767, with Mudallal and Amwaj finishing behind.

Battle of Talas was the victor in the fourth race over 10 furlongs in 2:06.137, taking the lion’s share of the BD2,000 prize, with Aquila and Tharb following.

Elsewhere yesterday, Andante and Kaasib were the winners of the Applied Science University-ASU Cups.

Andante won in race three for Victorious, AM Smith and Ali Sabri, completing the six-furlong straight in 1:13.647 for the biggest share of the BD2,000 winnings.

Kaasib triumphed in race two, also over a six-furlong straight, with BD2,000 prize money, racing for Mohamediya and Abbas Al Mawali, and saddled by Neil Callan.
