Manama rout Sitra in basketball league

Defending champions Manama overpowered Sitra 106-75 last night in their week 13 fixture in the 2022/2023 Zain Bahrain Basketball League, played at the Zain Basketball Arena in Um Al Hassam.

Manama were in a class of their own in the contest.

They took a 30-17 lead at the end of the first quarter, and never wavered.

They extended their advantage to 50-34 at the half, and virtually put the game away in the third where they outscored their rivals by 20, 37-17, to head into the final canto up a surely insurmountable 87-51.

Manama enjoyed a biggest lead of 37 points in the affair.

The reigning title-holders and current leaders extended their advantage at the top of the league standings with the result.

They posted their 11th win in 12 games as they improved to 23 points. Sitra, in the bottom-half of the table, dropped their eighth game to go with three wins.

They are on 14 points. Young guard Mustafa Hussain had an impressive triple-double to spearhead Manama. He finished with 22 points, including four three-pointers, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

American professional Lamonte Ulmer added 21, while Ahmed Najaf had 16 for Manama.

Sitra were paced by Malik Wineglass’s 31 and 11 boards.

Ali Eid contributed 17 in the loss. In another week 13 contest, Al Ahli defeated Al Hala 86-75.

Ahli started the game strong and took a 27-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.

They went ahead by as many as 22 points the rest of the way.

Mohammed Kowayed and American Lenny Daniel combined for 42 points to spearhead Ahli.

Kowayed had 22 to go with 10 rebounds and three steals while Daniel finished with 20 and nine boards.

Hesham Sarhan contributed 16 points while Subah Hussain had 14. For Hala, who never led in the game, Tony Farmer from the US had a near-triple double with 22 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.

Ahmed Khalifa added 17 and Nader Ali scored 12.

Ahli improved to a 9-2 winloss record with the result, while Hala dropped to a 5-7 mark.

League action continues tonight with Nuwaidrat playing Isa Town.
