Leaders Muharraq held by Al Khaldiya

Leaders Muharraq were held to a 1-1 draw by fellow-title contenders Al Khaldiya in their week nine contest of the 2022/2023 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League.

The match was a battle between the top two teams on the standings and it was tightly contested from the kick-off.

Amine Hasan and Abdulla Al Hazza were on target for their respective sides.

Hasan gave Muharraq a dream start with the match’s opening goal in just the fifth minute.

Sufyan Mahrouq sent in a cross from the left wing and it was punched away by Khaldiya goalkeeper Sayed Shubbar Alawi.

But the ball went directly to the path of Hasan, who fired back a shot into goal. That was enough to give Muharraq the slight advantage at the half.

In the 59th minute, Khaldiya were level and Hazza supplied the equaliser.

A pass from Mohammed Adel from the right flank found Hazza, who hit a right-footed effort from the inside edge of the penalty box.

The ball went to the bottom-right corner of goal past Muharraq’s Sayed Mohammed Jaafar.

With the result, Muharraq improved to 21 points atop the league table with their third draw in nine games, while Khaldiya went to 18 points, also with their third stalemate.
