Bahrain girls’ football team to kick off WAFF title bid

Bahrain’s youth girls’ national team begin their title bid today in the third West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) U16 Girls Championship in Amman.

The Bahrainis are scheduled to take on Lebanon in the tournament’s opening match, scheduled for a 4pm start, Bahrain time.

Jordan and Palestine are the other two participating squads and they face off at 7pm. Both fixtures are scheduled to be held at Aqaba Stadium.

Prior to the start of the competition, the coaches’ jointPress conference was held yesterday.

Bahrain’s Khaled Hassan said that the tournament is an important event for the development of the team.

He added that although their preparation period was short, the Bahrainis will give their best to put in a good fight against their counterparts.

Hassan added that the event will be a good test for his team as they also prepare to play in the 2024 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup qualification, which will be held in April.

Also speaking were Jordanian coach Aseel Barbarawi, Lebanon’s Sahar Dabouq and Palestine’s Ramah Mahmoud.

The general technical meeting also took place yesterday, during which the national teams’ official kits were presented and approved.

The tournament system and match schedule was also confirmed. The Bahrainis’ next game will be against the host Jordanians on Friday, and then they take on Palestine in their final game on Sunday.

Following  this single round-robin, the teams ranked first and second on the table will play for the tournament title, while the third and fourthplaced squads will battle for the bronze medals.

Bahrain’s youth girls’ national team’s 23-player roster includes Dawa Nasser, Maryam Issa, Maryam Thamer, Aya Louay, Liah Mohammed, Malak Abdulaleem, Hana’i Balateeq, Rawan Saleh, Fatima Waleed, Shaikha Salman, Jawaher Fadhel, Maya Abdulla, Maryam Khaled, Saria Nawaf, Amani Tariq, Hala Adel, Kafia Saqer, Sarah Sultan, Amina Hamad, Joud Majed, Luhain Ahmed, Jawaher Khaled and Hana Zara.
