Bahrain’s youth girls’ national team bowed to their counterparts from Lebanon 0-2 yesterday in their opening game of the third West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) U16 Girls Championship, currently being held in Amman.

Cecile Iskandar scored both goals against the Bahrainis, finding the net on either side of the half in the 31st and 95th minutes.

Bahrain, coached by Khaled Hassan, tried valiantly to fight back but could not add to the scoreline.

They will look to bounce back in their next game when they take on the host Jordanians tomorrow.

They will then face off with Palestine in their concluding first round fixture on Sunday.

Following this single round-robin, the teams ranked first and second on the table will play for the tournament title, while the third and fourthplaced squads will battle for the bronze medals.

Bahrain are also competing in the tournament to prepare for the 2024 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup qualification competition, which will be held in April.
