Muharraq, Ahli triumph in volleyball league

Muharraq and Al Ahli were both victorious last night in their round-of-six matches of the 2022/2023 Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League.

Muharraq eked out a thrilling 3-2 (25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 18- 25, 18-16) win over Dar Kulaib in a marathon match that went on until late last night, while Ahli powered past Al Najma 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21) in another tight contest.

Both games featuring four of Bahrain volleyball’s juggernauts took place at the Isa bin Rashid Arena at the Bahrain Volleyball Association headquarters, located at Isa Sports City in Riffa.

In Muharraq’s triumph, they took the opening two sets but Dar Kulaib roared back and almost completed their furious rally, but Muharraq were able to hold on in the end.

For Muharraq, Nigerian import Samuel Anthony Ogwuche was their top performer with 23 points.

He received plenty of help from teammates Hussain Khalifa, Hassan Al Haddad, Abbas Ehsan and Sayed Ali Mohammed, among others; while for Dar Kulaib, Mohammed Yaqoob was the top man, with Mahmood Abdulwahed, Ayman Isa and Ali Habib also playing key roles.

Muharraq claimed only their first victory in this stage of the league after four games, while Dar Kulaib suffered their first loss to go with three victories.
