Mark of Respect lifts Southern Governorate Cup

Mark of Respect lifted yesterday the Southern Governorate Cup in the eighth and feature race at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Competing for owner Hasan Mefareh Alajmi and trainer Hesham Al Haddad, jockey Anas Al Siyabi saddled the five-year-old gelding to first place in one minute 33.889 seconds over eight furlongs to claim the lion’s share of the BD6,000 prize.
Gumais was the runner-up for Al Mohamediya Racing while Maystar came third for Al Afoo Racing.
Also yesterday, four Al Sharif Group Cups were up for grabs and they were won by Fifth Fleet, Cape Horn, Qamari and Turna.
Fifth Fleet triumphed in the BD3,000 seventh race for MKAR Racing and Haider Ebrahim, as Andrea Atzeni rode the six-yearold victor to the finish in 2:17.958 over 11 furlongs.
Port Douglas and Purgatory were second and third, respectively.
Cape Horn won the BD2,000 fifth race, held over seven furlongs, in 1:25.650 for Victorious, AM Smith and Edinson Rodriguez, with Miblish and Jabarah behind.
Qamari won in the BD3,000 third race over a six-furlong straight in 1:14.385 for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Ebrahim Nader.
Khazzam and Waqiaah completed the top three. Turna lifted the Al Sharif Group Cup in the second race of the day, held over five furlongs with a BD2,000 prize.
The fouryear-old was saddled by Ebrahim Nader and won in 1:01.240 for Zainab Adel Abduljalil and Taleb Ali.
Assel and Stylish followed. Elsewhere yesterday, Bint Al Jazeera and Amaan won the Crown Industries Cups.
Bint Al Jazeera was victorious in the BD2,000 sixth race over nine furlongs in 1:52.803 for Al Mohamediya Racing, Hesham Al Haddad and Liam Keniry; while Amaan clinched first place in the BD3,000 fourth race over a six-furlong straight for Mohamed Jasim Jaafar, Talal Al Alawi and Abdulla Faisal, completing the race in 1:13.599.
In the opening race of the day, a WAHO event over five furlongs with a BD1,500 prize, Al Krush 1823 won for Al Sakhir, Jaffar Marzooq and Hussain Asghar in 1:12.610. Musannan 1811 was the runner-up and Al Saqlawy 1807 third.
