Team Bahrain Victorious rider Santiago Buitrago finished on the podium yesterday after placing third in the 163.4-kilometre fourth and penultimate stage of the Saudi Tour, part of this year’s Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Asia circuit.
Buitrago battled hard to stay close behind winner Ruben Almedia Guerreiro of Movistar Team and runner-up Davide Formolo of UAE Team Emirates. His finish helped him rise to third place on the general ranking heading into today’s final leg. Buitrago also took over as the leader in the race’s youth category.
Teammate Jonathan Milan, who was the overall leader heading into yesterday’s events, dropped to fifth on the general classification after placing 17th in stage four. Despite this, Milan stayed in first place on the general points classification, but went to second in the youth category behind teammate Buitrago.
