Sino Cruz, Edman enter final

Gilbert Sino Cruz from Philippines defeated Bahrain’s Sayyar Mohammed in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in the semi-finals of the men’s singles in the latest matches of the 29th GPIC Open Tennis Championships at the Bahrain Tennis Club premises in Juffair. 

Sino Cruz will take Switzerland’s David Edman in today’s final after he knocked out the only remaining seeded (sixth) player Canada’s Frank Li in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

In quarter finals action of the men’s +45 singles, top seed Cassius Pereira knocked out Abdulrahman Rajab 6-3, 6-3 and unseeded M Thahir Thahir knocked out third seed Roni Cifra 6-4, 7-6(4).

In the other matches, fourth seed Ronald Anacin was a 6-1'winner against eighth seed Stalin Joseph and sixth seed Norman Abastillas was a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 winner over second seed Kadri Rizk. 

The men’s super doubles is set to start tomorrow headed by the top two seeds Hassan and Karim Abdulnabi and Abdulrahman and Ahmed Janahi and other pairs include Yousif Qaed and Rashid Obaidly, Abdul Rahman Shehab and Mohammed Abdul Latif, Bader Abdul A’al and Antonio Catito and Nader and Mohammed Abdul A’al. Men’s +45 Doubles starts next Wednesday with the top four seeds being Yousef Qaed, Karim Redha, Lars Klaverstijn and Hassan Redha. Matches start each day from 6pm except Friday’s when none are scheduled.
