Jazeel lifts HH Shaikh Faisal Cup

Jazeel raced to a narrow victory to lift the HH Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup last night in the eighth and feature event at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.

REHC High Committee chairman His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended yesterday’s races alongside other officials.

Saddled by Stephane Ladjadj, Jazeel won the eight-furlong race for imported horses in one minute 36.446 seconds.

The Ahmed Al Isa-owned, Hesham Al Haddad-trained eight-yearold gelding took the lion’s share of the massive BD12,000 total prize with the result.

Finishing just a half-a-length behind was Ecosystem, competing for MKAR Racing, Haider Ebrahim and Andrea Atzeni, while Chimgan came third for Al Mohamediya Racing, Osama Hashim and Neil Callan.

In the sixth race of the day for the HH Shaikh Isa bin Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa Cup, Mudallal claimed first place for Al Mohamediya and Hesham Al Haddad, while saddled by Callan.

The four-year-old gelding completed the seven furlong, BD3,000 race in 1:24.993.

Khazzama was the runner-up for HH Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim and Andrea Atzeni while Ramani was third for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Anas Al Siyabi.

Meanwhile, in the day’s fifth race, Mobaadel lifted the Horse Welfare Authority Cup, contested over five furlongs with a BD5,000 total prize.

It was another victory for the Al Mohamediya-Al Haddad-Callan triumvirate, this time winning in 58.343 seconds.

Rebel At Dawn finished in second place for Al Adiyat Racing, AM Smith and Gerald Mosse, while in third came Dark Shadow for Al Mohamediya, Osama Hashim and Anas Al Siyabi.

Meanwhile, Gumais and Midhaal won the two Bahrain National Gas Company Cups.

Gumais triumphed in race five to mark another win for the Al Mohamediya-Haddad-Callan team.

The three-year-old completed the eight-furling event in 1:36.113 to claim the biggest portion of the BD3,000 prize.

American Flag was second and Firth of Clyde third.

Midhaal took first place in the nine-furlong fourth race, carrying a BD2,000 prize.

Ridden by Anas Al Siyabi, the four-year-old finished in 1:53.951 for Al Nuwayef Racing and Abdulla Kuwaiti.

Erada was the runner-up and Aslaan third. Also yesterday, Waqiaah and Dayem claimed the two Al Bilad Newspaper Cups.

Waqiaah won in the day’s third race, offering a BD2,000 prize, for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Anas Al Siyabi, completing the six-furlong straight in 1:13.985. Qamari and Shu Taibah completed the top three.

Dayem triumphed in race two, also with a BD2,000 prize, for Jassim Mohammed Asad, Ramzi Al Baqlawa and Hussain Asghar. Dayem won in 1:13.922 over a six-furlong straight, with Toulouse Le Plot and Alemaratalyoum in second and third, respectively.

In the first race of the day, a WAHO event, Obeyan 1867 triumphed for Al Wasmiya, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Abdulla Faisal.
