His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Honourary President of Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF), was yesterday crowned champion of the 160-kilometre ride that headlined the His Majesty the King’s Endurance Cup Festival, held at Bahrain International Endurance Village in Zallaq.

Deputised by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of HM the King, attended the event, which took place in the presence of HH Shaikh Nasser and HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, as well as a number of Their Highnesses and Excellencies.

The festival, organised by BREEF, featured several races, and the main event covered 160km, and HH Shaikh Abdullah crowned HH Shaikh Nasser as the champion of this prestigious competition following an incredible performance that allowed him to comfortably win the race.

HH Shaikh Nasser had a triumphant race time of six hours, 34 minutes and 29 seconds; almost 14 minutes ahead of Nasser Al Qahtani of KHK team, who came second.

Mohammed Abdulsamad of Al Ruood team finished third in 6:52:33.

On this occasion, HH Shaikh Nasser escalated his utmost thanks and appreciation to HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for sponsoring the festival, adding that His Majesty’s backing and support represent the backbone of the constant elevation of this important sport which is among the historic sports.

“The endurance sport has accomplished multiple achievements generation after generation,” HH Shaikh Nasser said.

“This reflects His Majesty’s keenness to provide all support in order for this sport to continue on the same path.” Moreover, HH Shaikh Nasser congratulated the runner-up and the third place winners on their accomplishments.
