Bahrain’s Al Nasser Club posted a hard-earned fiveset victory over Kazma SC of Kuwait last night in the 41st Arab Clubs Volleyball Championship for Men, currently being played in Egypt.

The Bahrainis needed to battle back from a set down and stave off a late surge from their opponents to close out the contest with a 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 25- 19, 22-25, 15-7) score line.

The result earned Nasser their third victory in a row in Group A of the tournament’s preliminary round.

They had earlier swept past Al Sadaqa VC of Palestine in their opening fixture and then and then defeated Asswehly SC of Libya in four sets.

Nasser were led in the contest by top Bahrain international players Mohammed Yaqoob and Ali Ebrahim, and also had key contributions from team captain Younes Abdulkarim, Ebrahim Mohammed, Mohammed Jassim, Hussain Mahdi, Mohammed Omar, Yousef Khaled and Jassim Al Turki.

The rest of the Nasser squad coached by Brazilian Sergio Luis Cunha includes Jassim Hamza, Ahmed Issa, Ali Sultan, Mohammed Mirza, Hussain Al Haiki, Hussain Al Jashi, Mohammed Jaffar and Yousef Mohammed Tahir.

After splitting the first four sets, Nasser got off to a great start in the tie-break with an Ebrahim spike.

They then continued their fine play to take a 9-5 advantage, and their impressive blocking helped them go up 11-6.

Nasser never looked back from there, and secured the win with four of the next five points.

Nasser, Kazma, Asswehly and Sadaqa are joined in their pool by Al Ahli SC of Qatar and Almeena VC of Yemen.

Group B features Al Wakrah SC of Qatar, Kibel of Yemen, Bani Yas of the UAE, Al Seeb of Oman and Al Ahly SC of Egypt.

Following a rest day today, Nasser next take on Ahli tomorrow at 7pm.

Their final group game will be against Almeena on Saturday at 5pm. Nasser must finish in the top four of their group to advance past this first stage.
