Formula 1 kicked off three days of pre-season testing at Bahrain International Circuit yesterday with Red Bull Racing's double world champion Max Verstappen starting as he means to carry on.
The 25-year-old Dutch driver was top of the combined timesheets in Sakhir with a best lap of one minute 32.837 seconds while completing 157 laps of work for the day.
Verstappen won 15 of the 22 Grands prix last year and will be chasing his third straight title when the 23-race F1 season starts with the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2023 from 3 to 5 March. Teams were focused on aerodynamic testing with prominent rakes attached to the cars in their first proper running.
Testing continues today and tomorrow at BIC, both days being open to fans wishing to catch a glimpse of F1's 2023 contenders. Gates open from midday to 7pm and tickets are available at the gate.
