Nasser sweep past Ahli of Qatar to stay unbeaten

Bahrain’s Al Nasser Club remained undefeated in the 41st Arab Clubs Volleyball Championship for Men following their fourth successive victory last night against Al Ahli SC of Qatar.
Both teams headed into the contest with perfect 3-0 winloss records, but it was the Bahrainis who kept their pristine mark intact following a resounding 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-23) sweep of their rivals.
Nasser are now in solo first place on the Group A standings in the tournament’s preliminary round.
They had earlier also swept past Al Sadaqa VC of Palestine in their opening fixture, before claiming wins against Asswehly SC of Libya and Kazma SC of Kuwait.
Nasser have one final group game today against Almeena VC of Yemen, scheduled for a 5pm start.
Nasser are hoping to finish as pool winners as they power through to the next round. Nasser, coached by Brazilian Sergio Luis Cunha, were led in last night’s contest by top Bahrain international players Mohammed Yaqoob and Ali Ebrahim, and also had key contributions from team captain Younes Abdulkarim, Yousef Khalid, Mohammed Omar, Ebrahim Mohammed, Hussain Mahdi, Mohammed Jassim and Jassim Al Turki.
The rest of their squad includes Jassim Hamza, Ahmed Issa, Ali Sultan, Mohammed Mirza, Hussain Al Haiki, Hussain Al Jashi, Mohammed Jaffar and Yousef Mohammed Tahir. Group B in the tournament features Al Wakrah SC of Qatar, Kibel of Yemen, Bani Yas of the UAE, Al Seeb of Oman and Al Ahly SC of Egypt.
